According to the groups, organisations and companies advocating for the cause, Iceland’s interior is one of the country’s greatest treasures, containing volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, glacial rivers, black deserts, and geothermal areas, and needs protecting. The area is also one of the largest uninhabited areas in Europe.
By working together, the involved parties hope to utilise the highlands in accordance with natural sustainability.
