The village of Stykkishólmur in West Iceland has decided to offer free WIFI rather than running an information centre in the town. According to the National Broadcasting Service, RÚV, the aim is to provide tourists with around the clock information.

The West Iceland Tourist Board, local tour operators and service providers worked together on the project and will provide the information available on the site as well as oversee updates.

Stykkishólmur is a lovely seaside town named after the small island, Stykkið (meaning the ‘Piece’), located on its harbour. The town serves as a gateway not only to the Westfjords by sailing across Breiðafjörður on the ferry Baldur, but the ferry also brings people to the island of Flatey in Breiðafjörður.
